Merrell is married to his lovely wife Joan and they reside in Piqua, Ohio. Merrell was born in Knox County, Kentucky and lived in a little valley in Letcher County called Linefork which is shadowed by the Pine Mountain.
Merrell was heavily influenced by many of his family members who are to this day musical geniuses and has been playing bluegrass music since he was 10 years old.
Merrell has played with some of the best musicians in the field such as Darren McGuire, Red Allen, Barbara Gilliam, the entire Halcomb clan, George Boggs, James Estep, The Cumberland Boys, Rising Tide, Southern Strings,, Kentucky Heritage, Kentucky Ridge, Wilber & Frank Carpenter,Roy Lee Centers and now Rock Island Plow Company. His instrument of choice is the Banjo but he also plays Dobro, Mandolin, Acoustic and Electric Guitar, and sings baritone backup vocals.
Merrell would like to share his "Mountain Memories" with you. This music is steeped in the rich ethnic heritage of his ancestors who called Southeastern Kentucky their home and is one of the most refined examples of Bluegrass Music you will ever hear.
The songs are all original and written mostly by Merrell Boggs and a young man named Darren McGuire. Darren is now a member of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver; second only to Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder on the bluegrass scene.
Darren's lonesome tenor voice adds incredible soul to the album and every musical note is absolutely flawless. Look for more biographies of the other band members at a later date and time.
